Hearing held in Ohio statehouse on medical marijuana bill

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Something unusual happened in the Ohio legislature today - a legislative committee held a hearing on a proposal to legalize the use of marijuana by some medical patients.

Listener Comments:

While Michigan and Ohio may be rivals one weekend every November, we are allies in making medical marijuana safe, reliable and affordable for all who choose it as a treatment option. I hope your legislature has the guts to do what Michigan's legislature couldn't do, and thats pass a common sense medical marijuana bill.

We want our friends in Ohio to know... Michigan supports yiou!

This would not only benefit patients, but it would also benefit any shortcomings that our state may have budget wise, being able to tax the medicinal growers, who are able to grow marijuana for the sick who are not able to grow their own, due to lack of space, knowledge, or time. just hire another medical patient to grow for them, and for a fee, get their own marijuana, grown by a proffesional. What a day it would be that a marijuana grower would be able to fill out a W2 form for his trade.... Thank goodness that we finally are going to have a president in the whitehouse, and enough support in capitol hill that understands that there are more benefits than negatives that would come along with medicinal use. i mean, look at california. sure they have issues with the laws, what with the feds constantly trying to undo the progress that they are making, and sure, there is the odd case of abuse of the priveledge, but all in all, this is an EXTREMELY successful first go with marijuana in our country. if this doesnt happen in ohio soon, im moving to mendocino myself. i would rather smoke pot happily relieving my pain, than have to eat oxycontins all day long and become a junkie slave...

Responding to Bryn: many sections of the bill were in fact written, re-written or edited by a plant biologist on behalf of Ohio patients.

I hope they do it right and before they start writing the law they consult not only Doctors but Botanist as well as plant Biologists to understand the growth and cycles of the plant.
